Claude & ChatGPT Connector

Overview

The Modeloptic connector lets Claude and ChatGPT work with your Modeloptic account. From a chat you can find your models, read their financial statements, transaction returns, and DCF values, send requests to the Modeloptic AI Agent, review and apply its changes, and export a model to Excel. Modeling accounts can also create a new model. The connector uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the standard Claude and ChatGPT use for connectors.

Use this connector address exactly as shown, including www:

Before You Connect

  • You need an existing Modeloptic account. You sign in to Modeloptic while connecting; the connector does not create accounts.
  • The connector acts as you, within your existing permissions. It reaches only the companies you can open in Modeloptic, and requests to the Agent follow the same access rules as the Agent panel.
  • Each request sent to the Agent counts as one prompt toward your plan’s limit, as it does in the app. See Usage & Billing.

Connecting Claude

On a Claude Free, Pro, or Max plan, add the connector yourself in Claude on the web or in the Claude desktop app:

  1. Open Customize, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector.
  2. Enter the name Modeloptic and the address https://www.modeloptic.com/mcp. Keep the default sign-in settings, then click Add.
  3. Click Connect. Sign in to Modeloptic if asked, review the access request, and click Allow access.
  4. In a chat, turn on Modeloptic from the + menu, under Connectors.

The Free plan allows one custom connector. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner first adds the connector for the organization under Organization settings, then Connectors. Each member then finds Modeloptic under Customize, then Connectors, clicks Connect, and signs in with their own Modeloptic account.

A connector added to your Claude account is also available in the Claude mobile apps, and in Claude for Excel, PowerPoint, and Word when you sign in to them with that account.

Connecting Claude Code

If you sign in to Claude Code with your Claude subscription, a connector you added in Claude is available there automatically. To add it to Claude Code directly, run this command in a terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http modeloptic https://www.modeloptic.com/mcp

Then run /mcp inside Claude Code, choose modeloptic, and sign in to Modeloptic in the browser window that opens.

Connecting ChatGPT

In ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces, an admin or owner adds the connector for the workspace:

  1. In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins, click +, and choose Add custom MCP server.
  2. Enter the name Modeloptic and the address https://www.modeloptic.com/mcp, choose OAuth for authentication, and confirm the warning.
  3. Create it as a plugin and publish it to the workspace.

Members then install Modeloptic from Plugins and click Connect to sign in with their own Modeloptic account. To use it in a chat, select Modeloptic in the message composer or mention it with @.

A workspace keeps the list of connector tools it had when the plugin was published. When Modeloptic adds or changes tools, an admin refreshes the plugin from its detail page and publishes it again.

On personal ChatGPT plans, OpenAI limits custom connectors. Pro can add them with read access only, so ChatGPT can read your models but cannot run the Agent or apply changes.

Working from Claude or ChatGPT

Ask in plain language and name the model you mean. For example:

In my Acme LBO model, show the Base Case income statement for 2026 through 2030 and the sponsor IRR and MOIC.

Requests that build or change a model go to the Modeloptic AI Agent, the same Agent as the panel in the app. A run takes from under a minute to several minutes, and Claude or ChatGPT relays any question the Agent asks. The conversation is shared with Modeloptic: it appears in the Agent panel’s History, where you or a colleague can continue it. Reload the Model page to see a conversation started from Claude or ChatGPT.

Direct and Proposed Changes

As in the app, the Agent makes Direct changes, such as creating a Projection Set, which take effect when they run, and proposes everything else for you to review. See How Changes Work. Requests from Claude or ChatGPT run in Auto mode, so Direct changes run without a separate approval. To approve each step first, ask Claude or ChatGPT to use Ask mode.

Reviewing and Applying Changes

When the Agent finishes, Claude or ChatGPT summarizes the proposed changes. Where the app can show interactive views, it displays a review card with the same change log as the Agent panel and two buttons: Apply changes and Preview in Modeloptic.

Preview in Modeloptic opens a temporary copy of your company with the changes applied, as Preview Changes does in the app. Nothing is saved to your model until you agree and Claude or ChatGPT applies the changes. Applying works as Apply Changes does in the app: it replaces each affected Projection Set, Configuration, transaction, or DCF with the Agent’s version, overwriting saves made since the request, and then recalculates the model.

Files and Excel Exports

The connector doesn’t carry files. None of its tools accepts a file, and its upload and download links work only in a browser where you are signed in to Modeloptic.

To give the Agent source files, ask for an upload link. It opens a Modeloptic page where you add up to 10 files within 24 hours, and the files are attached to your next request on that model. If you attach a file in Claude or ChatGPT instead, the Agent receives only what the AI app writes into your request, such as figures it read from the file, not the file itself.

To export a model, ask for an Excel export. You receive a download link to the same workbook the app’s Excel export produces.

Managing Connections & Your Data

Open User Account from the menu to see Connected Apps, which lists each connection and when it was last used. Disconnect ends that app’s access immediately. The list appears once you have connected an app.

A connection stays active until you disconnect it, even when you don’t use it. Changing or resetting your Modeloptic password ends every connection. Connecting again does not end an earlier connection, so you can connect more than one Claude or ChatGPT account, or Claude Code on more than one computer; disconnect any you no longer use.

Data the connector returns, such as statement values, change logs, and the Agent’s replies, goes to the AI app you connected. Anthropic or OpenAI handles that data under your agreement with them, not under Modeloptic’s agreements with the AI providers behind the Modeloptic AI Agent. Review your Claude or ChatGPT data settings, including whether your chats may be used to train models, before you work on confidential models there.
